TMJ

Jaw pain, clicking, trouble chewing.

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders affect the jaw joint and the muscles that move it.

Symptoms include jaw pain, headaches, earaches and difficulty chewing. Causes range from injury to arthritis; tension from the way the jaw and neck line up is a common factor.

How we approach it

  • Adjustments to the neck (cervical spine), which works closely with the jaw.
  • Gentle adjustments to the jaw joint itself where appropriate.
  • Soft-tissue therapy for the jaw muscles, and exercises to support them.
  • Advice on stress, which often makes TMJ symptoms worse.

We look for what’s behind the problem rather than just the symptoms, and coordinate with your dentist when that helps.
